Companion

Slow jazz fades to a quiet stop
just as the memory of your words
and smile will soon.

Each raindrop pelting my window
reminds me of a shared moment,
and I'm desperately searching for a rainbow
in a darkening sky.

My thoughts wander aimlessly
and I'm left to sit and wonder--
wonder how this all happened so fast.

There was never any doubt;
we just jumped hand in hand,
and now we're wondering
how the ground came up so fast.

Love in the fast lane
just didn't work
and I guess starting with love
wasn't such a good idea after all.

Strange isn't it?
How we both loved the rain
and the pain the things we love sometimes cause us?
I wonder if the rain is ever so wretched?
If it blackens like ink, or clouds like tears with its own sorry remorse.
or maybe it just seeps into the minds and hearts of those who can repent for it and lingers...
I never meant to hurt you
